Position Summary

The Accountant and Payroll, under the direction of the CFO, will primarily be responsible to maintain accurate, up-to-date, complete personnel records, participate and facilitate recruiting efforts, processing payroll, accounts receivable collections, banking, wire payments, month end processing and administering employee benefits. This position will monitor accounting-related documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance to business processes, compensation, and benefit programs. The Accountant and Payroll must hold a degree or diploma in a related field and three years of related experience.

Job Duties
  • Collecting and verifying time attendance
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all salaried and hourly employees, as well as commission and bonus payments.
  • Compile payroll data such as garnishments, vacation time, insurance, and other deductions.
  • Reconcile payroll totals and ensure all deductions and health benefit plans are made and remitted as scheduled.
  • Respond to employee and government agency inquiries regarding payroll.
  • Prepare payroll-related fillings and supporting documentation, such as year-end tax statements, pension, records of employment and other statements.
  • Process accounting payroll entries.
  • Process month-end cycle and reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and complete personnel records.
  • Maintain database and files for certified and classified substitute employees.
  • Prepare and post notices and advertisements.
  • Participate in selection panels to evaluate candidates.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills
Job Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in a related field
  • Three years of related experience
  • PCP/ PLP designation considered an asset.
  • Experience in payroll software, preferably ez pay.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable employment and health and safety legislation
  • Ability to read and interpret legislation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated time management skills.
  • High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
  • Knowledge of and exposure to a range of human resources activities, including the following: recruitment, orientation, compensation
  • and benefits, performance management, employee relations, and employee communications
  • Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion.
