Macfab seeks procurement partnerships at DSEI 2017
NEWS RELEASE: September 5, 2017: Macfab Manufacturing, an international supplier of precision components and sub-assemblies, will attend Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2017, the world’s leading trade fair in the defence and security industry, to be held September 12-15 in London, England.
Macfab will host an exhibit at the Canada Pavilion as part of a trade mission organized by the Ontario government’s Export Services Branch. Attendees are invited to visit the Ontario Pavilion at Stand N3-626.
DSEI 2017 is expected to draw 1,600 exhibitors and 34,000 attendees from over 100 countries. It encompasses the full spectrum of defence and security design and manufacturing, including air, land, sea, defence and joint applications.
Specialized machining collaborations welcome
Several of Macfab’s customers are attending DSEI 2017. Additionally, says business development director Joe Magyar, many attendees are on the company’s list of prospects: “Among the components we supply to our sensor/detector customers, many are made from two exotic materials – titanium alloys, and Kovar, a nickel-cobalt ferrous alloy often used in glass sealing applications.
“Our message at this trade show is that if you have a requirement defined by these special materials, we can help you with that. We welcome the challenge of working with the tougher materials.”
A laser diode, manufactured by US-based Innovative Photonic Solutions is contained within a sheath of Kovar that was machined by Macfab both inside and outside over a length of 0.450 inches with a wall thickness of 0.006 inches.
Top right: A titanium fibre optic receptacle with a 0.79 mm diameter through hole; the height dimension is held to a tolerance of +/- 0.003 mm.
Right: A titanium end cap for a laser pump cavity – delivered burr-free, laser-engraved, cleaned, ready for assembly.
Defence & security procurement partnerships in Canadian markets
Macfab is well established as both a developer and manufacturer of high-precision prototypes, components and sub-assemblies. As such, the company is ideally positioned to collaborate with global firms looking to enhance their access to Canada’s defence- and security-related procurement opportunities. To this end, Macfab is actively pursuing new partnering opportunities in several of its specialized product areas, including trace analysis and detection, night vision systems, guidance systems, and other niche applications.
In a classic example of its collaborative R&D with high-tech manufacturers, Macfab worked more than two years with its OEM customer to develop an ion emitter (left) operating at kilovolt levels, used in trace analysis and detection devices.
